Iglesia del Salvador

La Iglesia del Salvador está situada en Sevilla, concretamente en laPlaza del Salvador, y es, después de la Catedral, la iglesia más grande de la ciudad.

Historia

Aunque en su patio pueden apreciarse resquicios de la época romana y visigoda, el edificio fue levantada sobre los restos de Ibn Adabbas, Mezquita Mayor de la Sevilla musulmana (siglo IX); este templo religioso, así como su entorno, ostentaba gran importancia incluso en el desarrollo cotidiano de las gentes, por lo que cuando los cristianos conquistaron Sevilla, permitieron en un principio su uso como mezquita, pero en el año 1340 fue convertida en la parroquia del Salvador. Además, se convino mantener el rango ostentado de segundo templo de la ciudad; para ello le fue otorgado el carácter de colegiata. Así este edificio sostendría un uso religioso hasta el año 1671, cuando el paso del tiempo consiguió escribir sobre ella un fuerte deterioro. Su construcción tal y como la vemos hoy dio comienzo en 1674 con el arquitecto Esteban García, finalizando en 1712 de manos del arquitecto Leonardo de Figueroa. Más tarde volvería a ser sometida a un profundo trabajo de restauración que ha finalizado a principios de 2008 devolviendo al templo todo su esplendor.

Fachada

La fachada principal a la plaza del Salvador, es manierista, dividida en tres módulos separados por dobles pilastras, que se repiten en los extremos. Sobre los módulos se abren tres puertas, siendo la central la más destacada y sobre cada una de ellas se encuentra una ventana circular.

Interior

La iglesia se encuentra estructurada en tres naves de altura casi igual, diseñadas por Leonardo de Figueroa, la nave central está cubierta por bóveda de cañón, mientras que las laterales presentan bóvedas de aristas. El crucero se encuentra cubierta por una cúpula de tambor poligonal, rematada por linterna, también diseñada por Figueroa.

Hermandades

La iglesia del Salvador es la sede de las siguientes hermandades:

• Hermandad del Amor que hace estación el Domingo de Ramos
• Hermandad de Pasión que procesiona durante el Jueves Santo
• Hermandad del Rocío del Salvador
• Las hermandades de gloria de Nuestra Señora de La Antigua y Nuestra Señora del Prado.

Durante la Semana Santa se llegan a congregar en el templo hasta 5 pasos: tres de la Hermandad del Amor (Borriquita, Santísimo Cristo del Amor y Paso de Palio Nuestra Señora del Socorro) y dos de la Hermandad de Pasión (Ntro. Padre Jesús de Pasión y Paso de Palio Ntra. Madre y Señora de La Merced). También sirve de refugio de hermandades en caso lluvia, pudiéndose vivir estampas únicas.

History

Facade

Interior

The church is divided into three naves of almost equal height, designed by Leonardo de Figueroa, the central nave is covered by a barrel vault, while the sides have groin vaults. The cruise is covered by a dome of polygonal drum, topped by flashlight, also designed by Figueroa.

Saviour's Church is home to the following guilds:

* Brotherhood of Love that makes station on Palm Sunday
* Brotherhood of Passion procession on Holy Thursday
* Hermandad del Rocío del Salvador
* The glory guilds of Our Lady of La Antigua & Nuestra Señora del Prado.

During Holy Week came to congregate at the temple until 5 steps: three of the Brotherhood of Love (Borriquita, Holy Christ's Love and Paso de Palio Our Lady of Help) and two of the Brotherhood of Passion (Ntro.
